Did you know? The Dahlia:
- Originates from Mexico. There Francisco Hernández wrote the earliest description known about a ‘water pipe flower’ that was used by the Aztecs.
- First name was Acocotili and Cocoxochitl. However, today we know the flower as Dahlia, named after Anders Dahl, a Swedish botanist.
- Symbolizes dignity and elegance. As well as, it is the symbol of commitment and a bond that lasts forever. Therefore, brides like to use the flower on their big day.

The Dahlia is available in a ridiculously big amount of different shapes, sizes and colours. Some petals are evenly coloured, whilst others are multicoloured, have spots or lines on them.
The petals’ shape can differ from round, elongated or rolled up to single rows or multiple per flower. Nothing is too crazy.

That Dahlias are beautiful is a fact, to make sure you can enjoy these floral beauties the longest we came up with the following care tips:
- It starts with the vase! Use a suitable clean vase and fill it with tap water.
- Add some Chrysal cut flower food, to ensure a longer vase life.
- After transportation, flowers need to consume a lot of water. Make sure to cut the Dahlias diagonally by 3 to 5 cm with a sharp knife. By cutting the stem diagonally the drinking surface becomes larger.
- Remove the unnecessary leaves; make sure there are no leaves hanging in the water.
- Especially during Summer it is important to keep the Dahlias out of the full sun and draught. Just like many other flowers, they don’t like the heat too much.
- Make sure to refresh the water regularly, because Dahlias are thirsty.
- Last but not least, don’t place the flowers near fruits. Fruits emit ethylene gas and this will cause the flowers to age more rapidly.
