This month Parfum Flower Company introduced their new David Austin and Meilland Rose plants. The Rose Bushes are approximately 50 – 80 cm high.

ENGLISH OR FRENCH ROSES?

The English garden Rose collection by David Austin is very popular in the wedding and special events sector. The French Meilland Roses are a bit different. The shapes differs from the English Rose and their fragrance is a lot stronger. These Roses are also sold at high-end florist as a (mono) bouquet.

FRAGRANCE AS MARKETING TOOL

Scent is a special sense. It connects with memories better than other senses. Your customers will remember the smell of their wedding bouquets or the flowers on the coffee table at grandma’s home, when they see and smell the flowers at your shop. This will certainly give the Rose plants an added value.

Not every cut-flower is suited for your backyard, but well-known names like ‘Yves Piaget’ are available. We know you will fall in love with the other Roses like ‘William Shakespeare’.

During the flower trails we were invited to visit ROOOZ. This event took place at the Horticulture Garden Museum in Aalsmeer. Thirteen growers and eleven breeders presented their current Rose assortment and new varieties.

When you walked through the entrance you saw a sea of Roses. Each Rose has her own beautiful qualities. During the day you could vote on the best Roses in the ROOOZ Contest. A funny little fact: the experts and the consumers both vote. The consumers are more often right, than the Rose experts when it comes to the big successes.

HISTORIC AUCTION

We were invited in the historic auction home to listen to many interesting presentations by growers, breeders and Royal FloraHolland.

When you entered the room not only the beautiful floral arrangement drew your attention, also the old clock from the thirties and it functions perfectly. At the end we played a little auction game, who could press the button the fastest on the given number. A very exciting game!

The stylish cut Hydrangea has long been discovered as part of a beautiful bouquet. It is often used in fabulous floral work. No wonder, since the use of Hydrangea alwaysguarantees a splendid product.

Every space is lit up when these colourful flower heads appear. They also make a wonderful gift: you are certainly not arriving empty handed! Or how about a single, decorative flower next to a plate on the dinner table? Dare to experiment. This is an inspiring flower!

WHAT DO YOU CHOOSE: FRESH OR CLASSIC HYDRANGEAS?

The range of cut Hydrangeas consists of ‘Fresh’ and ‘Classic’ varieties. ‘Fresh’ refers to the fresh colours such as white, green, pink, blue and purple. Cut-flower Hydrangeas are available year round, with the best offer during the months of May to November. March to October are the best months for ‘fresh’ flowers.

If the hydrangea has gone through its colour change, we call it ‘Classic’. After changing colour, the ‘classic’ flowers are available from June to the end of November.

HYDRANGEA TIPS BY THE GROWER

• Fill a clean vase with water and some cut flower food.
• Remove any excess foliage from the stem.
• Cut 1 cm off the stem and repeat this every two or three days.
• Do not place in direct sunlight or near a heater.
